Today I'm all about that black and white pattern play. Pattern mixing was such a huge trend last year and it's not going away any time soon. I love mixing bold patterns together to create a fun and playful look. One of my favorite ways to do that is with black and white pattern play. I like to mix two different black and white patterns together for a geometric look.
I paired one of my favorite tank tops from Express with a playful abstract maxi skirt. Unfortunately, this exact top isn't available anymore, but the cut still is available in lots of patterns. My favorite thing about this top is that it's reversible. One side is black with white splatter and the other is white with black splatter. Anything that can help to increase the amount of outfits I can create in my closet without increasing price or taking up extra space is a huge winner in my mind.
Part of why I love black and white pattern play so much is that anyone can pull it off. If you're nervous about pattern mixing, start with black and white patterns. They tend to just naturally go together. Another tip is to pick one big pattern and one small pattern. For example, my tank top is a smaller, more detailed pattern of paint brush strokes. On the other side, my maxi skirt has a larger scaled pattern of abstract dots (although, some friends call this my "moo" skirt because they say it looks like cow print...it's not, haha.) No matter how you choose to rock your black and white pattern play, you'll come up with a chic look that you'll look fabulous in!
